Invented from a company known for producing camper tops and chemical toilets, their knowledge of fiberglass construction led to the Columbia Yacht being created in 1961. Building what will become a considerable range of sailboats, Columbia Yacht grew quickly into a profitable marine company. Columbia Yacht went out of business in 1982 after building more than 30,000 sailboats. In 2004, the spirit of the sailboat company was re-launched as Columbia Yacht Corporation.
