Established as a Wisconsin boat builder in 1967, Vanguard Sailboats grew on the success of company founders Oluf and Peter Harken who provided winning hardware to Olympic sailing competitors. When the Harken brothers sold the company in 1986, the headquarters of Vanguard Sailboats was moved to Portsmouth, Rhode Island. Through Vanguard Sailboats production history, vessels ranging from 8 to 18 feet in length were sold to the racing as well as recreational sailing enthusiasts. In 2007, Vanguard Sailboats was absorbed by Performance Sailcraft Europe and would become part of Laser Performance.
