A pair of four-wheel drive sport utility vehicles represents the 1998 Land Rover model lineup featuring the Discovery and the high-end Range Rover. With a number of new luxury sport utility vehicles appearing on the market, the pioneering grounds gained by the Range Rover continue to be celebrated. The 1998 Land Rover Range Rover line comprises of a SE powered by a 4.0-liter V-8 and an HSE trim level featuring propulsion from a 4.6-liter engine. The Land Rover Discovery is offered in LE and LSE model lines for 1998 with no major changes. Seen as a pure and classic form for where Land Rover originated, the Defender 90 models have been dropped from Land Rover's United States product range in 1998. The reason for the Land Rover Defender 90's discontinuation is new mandated safety rules requiring dual front airbags and side door impact protection.
