An all-new AMG-defined version of the E-Class is presented in the 1999 model year. The 1999 Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG is propelled by 349 horsepower and 391 pound-feet of torque from a V-8 engine. A five-speed manual transmission is now standard on the SLK while an automatic gearbox is optional. Bracing for a new 2000 S-Class, Mercedes-Benz has issued a worldwide offering of 600 S500 Grand Edition models finished in Obsidian Black and wearing 18-inch wheels.
