At long last, the 1999 Volkswagen New Beetle has arrived and is the first Beetle available in the United States since 1979. The New Beetle offers seating for four passengers and is available in three trims; the GL, GLS, and GLX. The base engine is a 2.0L four-cylinder which produces 115 hp. A four-cylinder 1.9L turbodiesel is available which earns well over 40 mpg. A new 1.8L turbocharged engine is also available and it produces 150 hp.
