A full-size luxury sedan, the classically-styled 2000 Jaguar XJ is offered with a choice between a standard 290 hp V8 or one that is supercharged which pushes output to 370 hp.

Formally joining Ford Motor Company's recently-launched Premier Automotive Group where it is managed alongside Lincoln, Aston Martin, Land Rover and Aston Martin, Jaguar's 2000 model year is marked by a new sedan. Resurrecting the name and styling theme of a Jaguar sedan sold in the 1960s, the S-Type debuted as a mid-sized positioned below the XJ sedan. Constructed on a platform shared with the Lincoln LS, the Jaguar S-Type is offered with a 3.0-liter V-6 or a 4.0-liter V-8 engine. Addition sizzle is now found in the XK8 lineup for 2000 through the introduction of the XKR. The 370-horsepower supercharged version of the Jaguar grand tourer sails from 0 to 60 miles per hour in an advertised time frame of 5.2 seconds. Mixing high-performance sport sedan qualities with high-luxury, the XJ Vanden Plas trim is now available with a supercharged engine for 2000. All 2000 Jaguar models feature traction control as standard equipment.
