After introducing several new models in recent years, BMW has turned attention to performance and powertrains of their 2001 line-up. The 2001 model year results in an expansion in the capabilities of the BMW 3 Series. An all-new M3 high-performance model is introduced with some serious speed and handling upgrades complementing the 330-horsepower engine. For 2001, the BMW 3 Series joins the all-wheel drive premium vehicle market with two sedan (325xi and 330xi) as well as the 325xi wagon. For 2001, the BMW X5 adds a six-cylinder engine serving as more economical choice. Powered by an all-new 2.5-liter inline-six engine, the 525i sedan and wagon become new addition to the BMW model range for 2001. An in-dash navigation system is optional on the BMW 5 Series. Ahead of a planned 2002 restyle, changes to the 2001 BMW 7 Series is highlighted by an available Adaptive Ride Package featuring electronic controlled shock absorbers.
