The upscale automotive brand Buick has committed to a drastic reshaping of its marque for the 2006 model year. Buick has dismissed a number of historically significant model names for 2006. Last year's debut of the LaCrosse has replaced the Century and Regal at the entry-level position of the Buick brand. For 2006, the Park Avenue and LeSabre have both been replaced by the all-new Lucerne. Based on the same platform as the Cadillac DTS, the front-wheel drive 2006 Buick Lucerne can be equipped with an optional 4.6-liter V-8 engine that generates 275 horsepower. The 2006 Buick Lucerne will be one of the first production vehicles available with a heated windshield washer system. The 2006 model year Buick LaCrosse is extra safer thanks to the standard inclusion of anti-lock brakes and side curtain airbags on all models. Engine power for the Buick Rendezvous' base model has been improved to 195 horsepower with a new 3.5-liter powerplant. For 2006, the V-8-powered version of the Buick Rainier operates with a fuel-saving technology General Motors calls Displacement On Demand cylinder deactivation.
