For 2009, the five-passenger Kia Optima four-door sedan gets a wealth of interior and exterior upgrades. Among the new interior features are a revised gauge cluster and center console and satellite radio, while the EX and SX trims get an optional navigation system. The Optima's upgraded exterior includes new front and rear fascias, hood, side sills, trunk lid and wheel designs. Power on the front-wheel-drive Optima increases to 175 hp and 169 lb-ft of torque for the 2.4L I4 engine, and 194 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque for the 2.7L V6 engine, paired to a five-speed automatic transmission, with a manual-shift capability standard on most trims. Kia Optima fuel economy by EPA standards is up in the realm of 22 mpg city/32 mpg hwy, while the V6 delivers 20/28 mpg. With anti-lock brakes, traction control and stability control now standard safety equipment on all trims, the Optima also features front-seat side airbags and full-length side curtain airbags, in addition to all of the other safety equipment for which Kia is known.
