With either front- or all-wheel drive available, Mazda CX-7 standard features highlight a turbocharged direct-injection 2.3L four-cylinder engine generating 244 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque pair to a six-speed automatic transmission with manual shift capability. Typically, the AWD system supplies 100 percent of the engine's power to the front wheels; however, if the car loses traction, up to 50 percent of the power is quickly and automatically shifted to the rear wheels. EPA fuel economy estimates for the AWD are 16 mpg city/22 mpg hwy and 18 mpg combined, while the 2WD gets 17 mpg city/23 mpg hwy and 20 mpg combined. CX-7 standard safety features include antilock disc brakes, stability control, front-seat side airbags and full-length side curtain airbags.
