In 2009, the Mazda CX-9 gets a standard trip computer on all trim levels, while the Sport trim gains Bluetooth phone capability, and the Grand Touring trims come standard with a garage-door opener and an auto-dimming rearview mirror with Homelink. In addition, all-wheel-drive trims now have a trailer tow preparation package. The four-door, seven-passenger CX-9 is a large crossover SUV that is powered by a 3.7L V6 engine good for 273 hp and 270 lb-feet of torque. While the six-speed automatic transmission is standard, all trim levels have a choice of either front- or all-wheel drive. EPA-rated fuel economy for a front-wheel drive CX-9 is 16 mpg city/22 mpg hwy and 18 mpg in combined driving; the all-wheel-drive CX-9 lowers those numbers by 1 mpg across the board. Mazda CX-9 standard safety features include antilock disc brakes with brake assist, stability control with rollover sensor, front-seat side airbags and full-length side curtain airbags, while a blind-spot warning system is standard on the Grand Touring trim. Of special note is that the CX-9 has achieved high crash test scores.
