Updated in 2009 with new front-end styling, wheel design, seat materials, and interior controls, the Nissan Xterra midsize SUV handles on- and off-road challenges with finesse and reliability. Designed with body-on-frame construction and either rear- or four-wheel drive, the Xterra is powered by a 4.0L V6 engine that packs 261 hp and 281 lb-ft of torque, paired with either a five-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission. EPA-estimated fuel economy for the 4x2 trims with the automatic transmission is 15 mpg city/20 mpg hwy, while the manual transmission gets 16/20 mpg; the 4x4 trims rate 14/20 mpg with the automatic transmission and 16/20 mpg with the manual. 2009 model year changes View changes +

The Xterra gets updated front end features for 2009, and roof-mounted lights are now standard with the Off-Road package. Several minor changes have also been made to exterior and interior trim options. The previously optional Rockford Fosgate sound system is now standard on S, SE and Off-Road models, and includes Bluetooth, steering wheel-mounted audio controls, XM radio, and an iPod jack. The SE package now includes leather seating, and side curtain air bags are now standard across the line.
