For 2009, the Toyota RAV4 crossover SUV gets restyled front and rear fascia, a redesigned wheel, new interior seat fabrics, front active headrests and an engine immobilizer. Toyota RAV4 standard equipment features a new, more powerful 2.5L four-cylinder engine that generates 179 hp and 172 lb-ft of torque, paired to a four-speed automatic transmission. Optional is a 3.5L V6 engine that produces a powerful 269 hp and 246 lb-ft of torque and is coupled to a five-speed automatic transmission. A choice of either front-wheel or four-wheel drive is available. EPA fuel estimates for a four-cylinder, front-wheel-drive RAV4 rate 22 mpg city/28 mpg hwy and 24 mpg combined, while the 4WD gets 21/27/24 mpg. The V6 front-wheel drive achieves19 mpg city/27 mpg hwy and 22 mpg combined, but four-wheel drive drops that 1 mpg on the highway. Safety equipment includes stability and traction control, antilock disc brakes, active front headrests, front-seat side airbags and full-length side curtain airbags. With the V6 engine or optional third-row seats, hill-start assist and downhill assist are offered.
