As the first vehicle to be built in Kia’s new West Point, Georgia factory, the 2011 Kia Sorento now rides on a unit-body structure, moving away from the 2009 body on frame design. With this change brings a more crossover like ride and handling with a lighter and more rigid core structure. The Sorento offers a 2.4-liter four-cylinder with 175 hp on Base, LX, and EX trims delivering up to 21/29 mpg city/hwy with FWD and 21/27 mpg city/hwy with optional AWD. A 276 hp 3.5-liter V-6 is available with the EX V6 package delivering 20/26 mpg city/hwy with FWD and 19/25 mpg city/hwy with AWD. With available leather seating for 5 or 7 passengers, touch screen navigation, steering wheel mounted controls, and more refined ride and handling, "The first American-built Kia” should excel in the otherwise crowded crossover market.
