Acura SLX Models and SLX History

The SLX was introduced in 1996 as the first SUV or crossover vehicle wearing the Acura badge. Largely a re-badged Isuzu Trooper, the four-door Acura SLX premium sport utility was a recipient of several luxury features. Cruise control, air conditioning, keyless entry and leather seating were all standard on the Acura SLX. In 1998, the Acura SLX transitioned from a 3.2-liter V-6 engine a larger, more potent 210-horsepower 3.5-liter powerplant. The 1998 Acura SLX was offered only with four-wheel drive and a four-speed automatic transmission. Solely offered in the United States, the Acura SLX was taken off the market after the 1999 model year. The first foray for Acura into the utility vehicle sector, the SLX would be forgettable with limited sales over the course of four years. The Acura MDX premiering two years after the final SLX sales would prove to be a worthier entrant into the luxury utility market for the brand.
