BMW's stellar reputation with the coupe body style has been cemented by the 507 roadster in the 1950s as well as the reign of the sporty 2002 during the 1960s and 1970s. In recent BMW history, a new naming strategy has devoted all coupe models with even-numbered designations. Joining the BMW 6 Series, the 4 Series debuted in 2014 that replaced the 3 Series coupe. BMW is one of several European automakers redefining the idea of a coupe being a two-door vehicle. The 4 Series and 6 Series models can be purchased as a four-door Gran Coupe adding better rear passenger accessibility while maintaining a sporty demeanor. The Z4 roadster and the electrified BMW i3 are also present in the German car company's coupe line-up.
