Cadillac Escalade EXT Models and Escalade EXT History

Accompanying a redesigned Escalade sport utility vehicle, Cadillac expanded their line-up to feature an unusual luxury product. Introduced for 2002, the Escalade EXT was equipped with a flexible pickup truck bed. The bed floor of the premium utility vehicle could be expanded from five to eight feet in length through the configurable mid-gate. Up to five passengers can be seated inside the vehicle when full cargo capacity is not in use. The 2002 Cadillac Escalade EXT employed the power of the 6.0-liter V-8 engine generating 345 horsepower. The powerplant was linked to a four-speed automatic transmission configured with an all-wheel drive system. Major upgrades were presented for the 2003 model year version of the Escalade EXT. HID headlights, upgraded StabiliTrak and a new dual-zone electronic climate control system was made available on the luxury vehicle. A Panasonic-supplied rear-seat entertainment system consisting of a seven-inch LCD screen, DVD player, wireless headphones and a remote control was added as optional equipment. A touch-screen navigation system was added to the Escalade EXT in 2005 along with an upgraded alternator. For 2007, the Cadillac Escalade EXT featured updated exterior style and an all-new engine that featured variable valve timing. A 6.2-liter V-8 engine included with the 2007 Escalade EXT produced 403 horsepower paired with a six-speed automatic gearbox. The V-8 powerplant was upgraded to run E85 blended gasoline in 2009 and added Active Fuel Management cylinder deactivation technology in 2010. The Cadillac Escalade EXT was discontinued after the 2013 model year ahead of a complete 2015 redesign coming to the Escalade sport utility vehicle.
