Chevrolet Venture Cargo Van Models and Venture Cargo Van History

While many handymen and contractors appreciated the Astro Cargo Van, the Chevrolet Venture Cargo Van found fans among small businesses as well as light commercial work. Only available as an extended wheelbase variant, the 1998 Venture Cargo Van could be equipped as either a single sliding rear or dual siding door model.

The Chevrolet Venture Cargo Van’s design was identical to the family passenger van Venture minivan. Propelling the 1998 Chevrolet Venture Cargo Van, a 3.4-liter V-6 engine was standard on the small cargo van producing 180 horsepower and 205 pound-feet of torque. A five horsepower output bump after the 1999 model year was the only notable change to the powerplant of the Venture Cargo Van. A four-speed automatic gearbox handled engine power that flowed directly to the front-wheel drive system. The 1998 Chevrolet Venture Cargo Van could achieve up to 25 miles per gallon fuel economy during highway driving. With seating configured only for a driver and front row sitting passenger, a 140.7 cubic feet cargo area provided room for up to 1,658 pounds of payload.

The Venture Cargo Van was also capable of towing a maximum weight of 3,500 pounds. Standard features included on the Venture Cargo Van consisted of front airbags, air conditioning, tilt steering column, 15-inch wheels and an anti-lock braking system. Following the 2005 model year, the Chevrolet Venture Cargo Van was replaced by a utility minivan based on the Uplander.
