Ford C-Max Energi Models and C-Max Energi History

The C-Max Energi arrived in 2013 as a plug-in hybrid version of the Fords European-sourced multi-purpose vehicle. The 2013 Ford C-Max Energi and the C-Max Hybrid were introduced as urban utility products capable of awarding motorists with thrifty fuel consumption.

Differentiating itself from the C-Max Hybrid, the Ford C-Max Energi is fitted with a larger lithium-ion battery pack for increased electric power capacity. Equipped with a 7.6-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery, the C-Max Energis electrical propulsion is derived from an 88-kilowatt permanent magnet AC synchronous motor. On electric power alone, the 2013 Ford C-Max Energi can coast up to 19 miles. With an available 240-volt home charging station, recharging the C-Max Energi is performed in approximately 2.5 hours. Traveling beyond the electric-only range, a 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle engine took over. Generating 141 horsepower and 129 pound-feet of torque, the 2013 C-Max Energis gasoline range extender channeled power through an electronic continuously variable transmission.

In combined city and highway driving, fuel economy for the Ford C-Max Energi was rated at 38 miles per gallon. Able to accommodate up to five occupants, the cabin of the C-Max Energi also boasts considerable room for cargo. Behind the first row seating, up to 42.8 cubic feet of space is available transforming loads. Standard interior features on the C-Max Energi included MyFord Touch, ambient lighting, dual-zone automatic temperature control and a six-speaker audio system. For the driver, dual-LCD SmartGauge with EcoGuide provides information vital in operating the Ford C-Max Energi in electric or gasoline modes.
