Coinciding with the release of GMC's heavy-duty version of their one-ton truck in 2007 (the GMC 3500HD), the GMC Sierra 3500 Classic was a carry-over of the 2006 Sierra 3500. Available in regular cab, extended cab and crew cab configurations, the 2007 GMC Sierra 3500 Classic also provided the choice of different bed box lengths. Standard power for the Sierra 3500 Classic came from a 6.0-liter V-8 engine while customers seeking additional gasoline power can opt for the 8.1-liter V-8 powerplant. An optional 6.6-liter Duramax turbocharged diesel offered with the Sierra 3500 Classic combined with an Alliston six-speed automatic transmission and capable of generating up to 650 pound-feet of torque. Maximum towing capacity with the diesel-powered one-ton pickup was rated at 16,000 pounds. Rear-wheel and four-wheel drivetrains were both available on the 2007 GMC Sierra 3500 line. The 2007 GMC Sierra 3500 Classic was the final one-ton pickup truck available from the brand without the heavy-duty designation.
