The FIAT 500L was introduced as a four-door subcompact multi-purpose vehicle in time for the 2014 model year. Assimilating the basic aesthetics found on the 500, the five-passenger rated 500L is over 23 inches longer and over 4.5 inches taller compared to the three-door hatchback. The 2014 FIAT 500L was introduced in four trim levels consisting of Pop, Easy, Trekking and Lounge models. Four-wheel disc braking, electronic stability control and electric power steering is included standard on all versions of the FIAT 500L.
Featuring a powerplant borrowed from the 500 Abarth three-door hatchback, a turbocharged 1.4-liter MultiAir engine propels the FIAT 500L. Delivering 160 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, the 2014 500Ls powerplant was paired with a six-speed manual transmission or an available Euro Twin Clutch six-speed transmission. When equipped with the Euro Twin Clutch transmission, the FIAT 500Ls highway fuel economy was rated at 33 miles per gallon. The 2014 FIAT 500Ls interior featured up to 98.8 cubic feet of cargo volume.
Cargo capacity for the FIAT 500L is 22.4 cubic feet with rear seats up or can be expanded to 68 cubic feet when the rear seat bench is folded down. An Uconnect 5.0 multimedia system is found inside all 2014 500L models as standard complete with a five-inch touchscreen display, Bluetooth and text-message reader function. An optional Uconnect 6.5 multimedia unit is also available for all trim level with exception to the Pop. Air conditioning and remote keyless entry is found as standard conveniences on all 2014 500L models. For 2015, the FIAT 500L has added a conventional six-speed automatic transmission.
