Ford Transit Connect Models and Transit Connect History

A small-scale cargo van, the Ford Transit Connect was a popular commercial vehicle in many parts of Europe. Based on a C170 platform used for the American Ford Focus, the front-wheel drive Transit Connect featured a car-like handling while boasting massive utility. For the 2010 model year, the Ford Transit Connect was first imported to North America providing a refreshingly different option for commercial entities seeking an alternative to large work vans.

Arriving with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine generating 136 horsepower, the diesel engine version of the Transit Connect available in other parts of the world would not be offered in the United States. Presenting up to 135.3 cubic feet of interior cargo space, the cargo van tailored 2010 Transit Connect could be ordered with or without side and rear windows. A towing package was also optional for the 2010 Ford Transit Connect van allowing it to pull as much as 1,600 pounds.

For 2011 and 2012, an all-electric version of the Transit Connect became available. Through a partnership with Azure Dynamics, the Transit Connect Electric presented up to 56 miles of zero-emissions driving. AdvanceTrac electronic stability control became standard equipment on the Transit Connect for the 2012 model year to comply with United States road safety regulations.

For 2014, the Transit Connect received a completed refreshed appearance and all-new engine power. Promoted to the newer global C1 platform, the 2014 Ford Transit Connect propulsion came from a 2.5-liter Duratec four-cylinder or a 1.6-liter EcoBoost engine. Offered as a short and long wheelbase model, buyers of the 2014 Transit Connect could also opt for 180-degree swing-out rear doors or a liftgate. The long wheelbase version of the 2014 model year Ford cargo van could accommodate up to 128.6 cubic feet behind the front seating.
