Jeep Cherokee Police Models and Cherokee Police History
Living up to the Jeep brand's hard-working attitude, the Cherokee was put into fleet service almost immediately after its 1984 model year introduction as a mid-sized sport utility vehicle. For 1992, the Jeep Cherokee was officially issued with a police special service package. Offered with two-door and four-door versions of the civilian-based sport utility vehicle, the Jeep Cherokee Police model featured unique enhancements such as an upgraded electrical system and suspension. Along with excelling for handling off-road or difficult terrains, the Cherokee Police model earned a reputation as apt for on-road performance. The Jeep Cherokee Police vehicle's improved suspension, anti-lock brakes and the removal of the top speed limiter combined to give the 4.0-liter V-6 engine sport utility some stature in the law enforcement community. Rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive versions of the Jeep Cherokee Police vehicle were available from 1992 to 2001.
