mercedes benz SLR McLaren Models and SLR McLaren History

After several years of a successful partnership on the track in Formula 1 competition, Mercedes-Benz and the McLaren race team collaborated in the creation of a new supercar. The resulting road-going vehicle arrived in the United States for 2005 called the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren. A shape given form through lightweight carbon fiber, the SLR McLaren featured a low-profile appearance. The front end incorporated Formula 1-inspired design elements while the rear featured a deployable spoiler that functioned as improving downforce and served as an automatic air brake. Classified as a mid-engined vehicle, the AMG-supplied supercharged 5.5-liter V-8 engine was positioned in front of the passenger cabin but well back from the front wheels. 617 horsepower channeled through the rear wheels provided enough force to move SLR McLaren from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 3.6 seconds. Offered as a sport coupe from 2005 to 2007, the 2008 model year saw the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren transform into a roadster. Providing a thrilling, well-balanced open-air driving experience when the top is down, it only takes 10 seconds for the SLR McLaren Roadster's semi-automatic roof to fit in place. Intentioned to be a low production high-performance vehicle, total production of the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren line was calculated at 2,000 cars worldwide. The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG succeeded the SLR McLaren for the 2011 model year.
